World March of Women – Africa Region Meets in Benin

The World March of Women (WMW) Africa Region met in Cotonou, Benin, from 1–3 August to discuss the current situation of the movement in the region and define political strategies to strengthen regional coordination and collaboration in the face of capitalism, the increasing militarisation of governments, and the urgent challenges of the feminist economy and climate justice.
The meeting opened with a moment of reflection, including an exhibition of symbolic objects representing each participating country and a tribute to Nana Aicha, an African feminist, World March of Women activist, and member of the International Committee for Africa, who sadly lost her life in Mali.
Participants reflected on the global context affecting the movement as a whole, as well as the specific realities in Africa, where political, economic, and social challenges have made regional coordination increasingly complex.
Throughout the meeting, delegates developed strategies to strengthen regional coordination and adopted a strategic plan built around clear priorities aimed at reinforcing the movement and expanding solidarity among peoples.
The delegates will also participate in panels at the World Social Forum, where they will exchange perspectives on political conflicts related to migration, occupation, and militarisation, as well as feminist alternatives to capitalism and climate justice.
As the Africa Region, we reaffirm our commitment to the struggle against capitalism, which deepens inequality, and against the wars that continue to devastate our peoples. We remain committed to building a world based on justice, equality, peace, and solidarity because we believe that another world is possible.
Following the regional meeting, WMW delegates will continue their participation in the World Social Forum (WSF) in Cotonou, where they will organize and contribute to workshops, strengthening feminist dialogue, international solidarity, and collective action for social transformation.
