On October 17 and 18, 2025, the World March of Women Quebec came to life through a series of mobilizing, creative, and deeply inspiring activities that filled the city with feminist energy, joy, and determination.

🌿 October 17 — The Feminist Village: Building Ties and Ideas
On October 17, the Feminist Village brought together hundreds of participants for workshops, discussions, and feminist popular education activities. This day of exchange, reflection, and creation allowed participants to forge bonds, share knowledge, and collectively prepare for the big day of mobilization the following day.

Participants reflected on the roots of feminist struggles, the need to connect local and global demands, and the power of collective organizing. The atmosphere was one of hope and creativity — a living demonstration of solidarity in action.
✊ October 18 — A March of 20,000 for Life and Rights
On October 18, the streets of Quebec City were filled with vibrant energy as nearly 20,000 women and allies marched to denounce violence against women, poverty, and the destruction of our environment.
The march featured tableaux vivants illustrating key feminist demands, marching bands, giant puppets, and artistic performances that were both historically and politically significant.

A cycling contingent, composed of a dozen women who had traveled nearly 300 kilometers from Granby, also made a lasting impression — a vivid symbol of perseverance and solidarity.
In their speeches, the spokespersons gave voice to the anger, courage, and vision that have driven feminist struggles across generations and continents.
Julie Antoine reminded that:
“This violence is not random. It is neither private nor accidental. It is historical, political, and structural. Violence against women is systemic.”
She continued:
“We denounce patriarchy that excuses, the courts that minimize, the complicit states that trivialize and remain silent. We denounce capitalism that exploits, colonialism that crushes, and all ideologies that seek to subjugate us. We are hope. We are life. We are everywhere. And we will resist.”
Her words resonated powerfully with the marchers, echoing through the streets filled with drums, chants, and banners.

Pénélope Guay, speaking as an Indigenous feminist, reminded everyone of the deep link between women’s struggles and the defense of the planet:
“Mother Earth does not belong to us — we belong to her. Among Indigenous peoples, this is the foundation of our identity.”
She added:
“Enough of letting corporations write countries’ laws to serve their own interests. There are solutions, but we must decide together that this is the path we must take… We are marching for a society based on feminist values that puts the economy at the service of life.”
Her message bridged feminist and ecological struggles, underlining how both are inseparable in the fight for justice and sustainability.

Emilia Castro spoke about the deep structural roots of poverty and how it affects women unequally: “Poverty is rooted in sexism and discrimination, particularly for women at the intersection of systems of oppression… Those facing multiple barriers are at greater risk of poverty, including racialized women, women with disabilities, and single mothers.”
She concluded by emphasizing the global scope of feminist resistance:
“Faced with the current situation worldwide, women on every continent are resisting… In 2025, women’s resistance will continue, and our international solidarity will continue!”
🌎 A Celebration of Struggle and Hope

Throughout the day, powerful speeches, performances, songs, and moments of convergence fostered a sense of collective power and shared emotion. The closing ceremony, colorful and hopeful, celebrated the memory of feminist struggles while looking to the future — carried by a dynamic and committed new generation of women who continue to march for equality, justice, and dignity.
These two days were filled with emotion and hope. They reminded us that the convergence of struggles is not only necessary but possible through internationalist feminist solidarity.
We march against wars and capitalism,
We defend the sovereignty of peoples and “Buen Vivir”!💜✊
