The World March of Women stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, especially women, who have been withstanding aggression from the United States government for more than twenty years.
We condemn the United States government’s attempts to convert the Caribbean into a new battleground by mobilizing troops and weapons on a scale without precedent this century, as it seeks to punish the Venezuelan people for defending their right to self-determination.
We condemn the extrajudicial killings of more than 60 people in the Caribbean Sea and the indiscriminate use of military force against small fishing and passenger boats travelling between the continent and the Caribbean islands. We condemn the campaign waged against the Venezuelan government by the United States government and its attacks on the dignity of the Venezuelan people, who it falsely accuses of drug trafficking and terrorism. We sound the alarm on the use of these discourses to legitimate state crime and justify lawless actions. We CANNOT allow impunity to continue.
We condemn the economic sanctions and financial blockade that have been used for years in an attempt to crush the will of the Venezuelan people. We condemn the application of more than 1,000 unilateral coercive measures, which constitute an economic war on the Venezuelan people that has been particularly harmful to women. We recognize that, in this multifactorial war, Venezuelan women have been the first line of defence in their communities by sustaining the care and community support systems; however, we acknowledge the burden that this places on their lives and draw attention to the worsening structural, cultural conditions that make them increasingly vulnerable.
We are aware that the care system has become a target in this war, endangering the lives of women and children, and we condemn the United States government and especially its president as an aggressive chauvinist force that has made violence against women part of its foreign policy.
We condemn the scheming of the current United States government, which aims to impose itself as the only voice on the global stage, establish a global dictatorship and use the riches of the Americas to fund its war apparatus and agenda of destruction for the benefit of extractivist transnational companies.
We add our voices to those of the peoples and governments who have expressed their solidarity and stand alongside the Venezuelan people.
We call on all organizations and social movements to mobilize for peace in the Caribbean and the American continent and to express their solidarity with the women and people of Venezuela as part of their activities to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November.
As a grassroots internationalist feminist movement, we are committed to defending the sovereignty of peoples and their right to build buen vivir. Today, more than ever, we stand with Venezuela.
We march against wars and capitalism! We defend the sovereignty of peoples and buen vivir!
We will continue to march until we are all free!
